University College London researchers want to learn more about students with vision impairments experience of learning mathematics – from an educators’ perspective. Below is a notice from the researchers about how you can get involved.
Introduction to the study
Tacilia is a low cost novel multi-array tactile display technology, which can be drawn on and is erasable. Its ability to present recognizable tactile graphics has been tested. We believe it would be impressive to see its potential in addressing challenges faced by maths students with vision impairments. And we need your help with it.
Who are we looking for?
Adults aged 18 or older, who have experience of teaching students with vision impairments or assisting them in studying. They could be Qualified Teachers of Children and Young People with Vision Impairment or regular classroom math teachers who have students with vision impairments in their class.
*It would be preferable that you have used braille and/or tactile learning materials in teaching and are especially familiar with teaching mathematics.
What would happen if I took part in the study?
You would be asked some questions by a researcher on your teaching experience and thoughts via an online video call.
The benefits of taking part in the study could be:
- Giving you some potential space to reflect on your experience and get inspiration for your work
- Contributing to the research and design of the futuristic tactile learning technology
